What will the weather be like on Christmas and New Year's Day 2025?

On the afternoon of December 20, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that on Christmas 2024 (December 24-25) and New Year 2025, the weather in the northern provinces is forecast to be generally cold.

Meanwhile, the weather in the Central Central, South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions during Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 is likely to have moderate to heavy rain concentrated at night and in the morning.

Regarding specific information about the weather trend during Christmas 2024, expert Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Department (National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting) said that from December 24-25, in the northern provinces, it will be cloudy at night, fog and light fog in the early morning, and sunny during the day.

Night and morning temperatures in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North during Christmas are generally from 10-13 degrees Celsius; in the Northern Delta region from 13-15 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures in the northern provinces are generally from 20-23 degrees Celsius.

Specifically, the weather in Hanoi from December 24-25 is generally cloudy, no rain, sunny in the afternoon, temperature from 14-21 degrees Celsius.

The weather on the night of December 24 and December 25 in Sa Pa (Lao Cai province) is generally no rain, light sunshine in the afternoon, lowest temperature 6-8 degrees Celsius; Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) is no rain, light sunshine in the afternoon, lowest temperature 16-18 degrees Celsius.

In the Central Central region, South Central region and Central Highlands provinces, from December 24-25, there is a possibility of moderate rain, heavy rain, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms; in the Southern region, there is also a possibility of showers and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms, concentrated in the eastern provinces.

On the occasion of New Year 2025, it is forecasted that in the Northern and North Central regions, the sky will be cloudy at night and in the morning, with fog and light fog in the early morning, and sunny in the afternoon.

Night and morning temperatures during the 2025 New Year in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North will generally range from 11-14 degrees Celsius, in the Northern Delta and North Central regions will generally range from 14-17 degrees Celsius; daytime temperatures will range from 20-23 degrees Celsius.

The Central Central region has showers, concentrated at night and in the morning. The South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions generally have little rain and sunny days.

In addition to the above information, the leader of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also noted that a low pressure area is currently forming in the southern part of the East Sea. In the coming days, this low pressure area is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression with a probability of 60-65%.
