The startup movement has been spreading strongly among the young generation of Hai Duong. Many young people dare to think, dare to do, are passionate about learning, strive to rise up and succeed on the path of starting a business, contributing to the development of their homeland.
After graduating from university, Mr. Hoang Huy Minh (born in 1989), Secretary of the Youth Union of Hong Phong commune (Nam Sach) chose to return to his hometown to start a business. His family is a farmer, so farming is not strange to him.
In 2019, he started the startup project "Production and supply of some clean agricultural products" with a capital of about 600 million VND. He planted some fruit trees, vegetables, medicinal herbs such as apples, sapodilla, corn, cauliflower, asparagus, basil on an area of 5,000 m².
He is currently focusing on taking care of 300 Taiwanese apple trees, giant apple trees and 200 sapodilla and mango trees. These are two varieties of trees that bring high economic value. Each year, his family earns 140 million VND in profit from the above growing area.
From the initial concerns and fears when starting a business, with the initiative to explore, be creative, learn from the experiences of previous farmers and the support of his family, Mr. Minh has now achieved certain successes.
Also passionate about farming like Mr. Minh, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (born in 1990, in Tu Cuong commune, Thanh Mien) is looking for plant varieties that bring high economic efficiency to experiment. In 2019, he started a business with the Vifarm melon farm grown in greenhouses and net houses. Having spent many years working in Japan in the agricultural sector, applying science and technology to farming is not difficult for Mr. Tien. Mr. Tien said: "I am passionate about plants, farming and finding ways to turn that passion into economic benefits."
Melons are susceptible to disease and require careful care, so he grows them entirely with coconut fiber, providing nutrients to the plants through a self-designed drip irrigation system. From a 2,000 m² greenhouse when he first started, he has now expanded to 2 melon gardens with an area of 5,000 m², with a revenue of 1.5-1.7 billion VND/year.
Born in a land with a tradition of growing onions, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen (born in 1992, in An Phu ward, Kinh Mon) always cherished the dream of starting a business to help consume her hometown's agricultural products.
Realizing the potential demand for fried onion products and the availability of raw materials in her hometown, in 2021, she invested more than 1 billion VND to open a fried onion processing factory.
At first, the output of fried onions was only 3 tons/month. Promoting her youth and creativity, she linked up with young people to sell online and run advertisements. With the advantage of 100% pure onion products, Ms. Quyen's fried onion production facility has now consumed more than 1 ton/day, and the market has expanded nationwide. From the initial factory of just over 40 m², it has now expanded to about 200 m², with annual revenue of over 700 million VND. "I hope the Youth Union will support bringing the products to fair booths for wider promotion, possibly to other countries," Ms. Quyen suggested.
These are just some typical models in the youth start-up and career movement of Hai Duong province.
The farming models of Mr. Minh, Mr. Tien, and Ms. Quyen are a learning destination for many young people who want to start a business and establish a career in their homeland, creating attraction and spreading to young people.
Mr. Bui Hai Bang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, commented: “Many innovative start-up models have helped many members and young people escape poverty and stabilize their lives. One thing worth noting about young people after escaping poverty is that there have been forms of mutual support for members and young people in difficult circumstances, demonstrating the pioneering spirit of the youth.”
Over the years, Hai Duong province has always paid special attention to the development of youth, especially the issue of starting a business, establishing a career, and young human resources. The Provincial People's Committee has issued many plans and programs, creating favorable conditions for young people to start a business, establish a career, and develop. Departments, branches, and sectors always accompany and coordinate with the Youth Union at all levels to implement many programs and activities on creative startups and support loans.
On November 28, Hai Duong Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Youth Union launched the Hai Duong Youth Startup Club with 15 members. This is a place to gather and gather young people with startup ideas, widely connecting youth-owned businesses, small and medium-sized production and service establishments, farm models, and youth economic activities. Previously, many youth startup clubs and youth economic activities clubs in many districts, towns, and cities were established and maintained.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hang, Secretary of Kinh Mon Town Youth Union, said: "The Youth Union organizations in Kinh Mon town always effectively maintain clubs for young people who are good at economics and models of youth start-ups. These activities help young people develop creative ideas in starting a business. The Youth Union always accompanies and supports young union members in the process of starting a business and establishing a career."
To fuel the dream of starting a business and establishing a career for young people, in October 2019, the People's Committee of Hai Duong province approved the Project to support young people in starting a business for the period 2019-2025. The goal of the project is to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship, dynamism, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, creating a vibrant startup environment for young people. The estimated cost of implementing the project is 23.5 billion VND, divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 from 2019-2021 supports 10 billion VND. Phase 2 from 2022-2025 supports 10 billion VND. The remaining 3.5 billion VND is used to organize activities related to the project.
From 2019 to present, the Provincial Youth Union has coordinated with the Social Policy Bank, Hai Duong branch, to disburse 18 billion VND of project capital for 248 youth start-up projects in the province, thereby supporting and encouraging young people with ideas to start and establish businesses in the locality.
During the 2020-2022 period, the Youth Union at all levels coordinated to organize career counseling and job introduction for nearly 130,000 union members and young people; coordinated to organize over 310 training courses to transfer science and technology to more than 15,800 rural youth.
In October 2023, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trieu The Hung had a dialogue with young people on the topic "Hai Duong Youth with Start-ups and Careers in the Industry 4.0 Era". At the dialogue, many opinions and recommendations from young people on policies related to the implementation of start-up projects were answered. Through the dialogue program, it also showed the attention of provincial leaders as well as departments, branches and sectors of the province towards young people, always placing trust and hope in the youth of Hai Duong.
In the coming time, to continue supporting young entrepreneurs, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee will continue to promote propaganda, organize training courses, and start-up idea competitions; connect young people with start-up businesses; build and develop creative start-up projects for young people in the province. At the same time, continue to direct Youth Union chapters at all levels to effectively use capital entrusted from the Social Policy Bank; effectively implement the Youth Start-up Support Project for the period 2019-2025 and organize activities to commend and honor exemplary young entrepreneurs to replicate and act as the core to lead the youth start-up movement.
