Using insect killer lamps helps reduce environmental pollution, create clean products for consumers and ensure the health of growers.

Delegates visited the model of melons grown in a greenhouse using an insect-catching lamp system at Mr. Vu Van Phong's family in Chi Lang Nam commune (Thanh Mien).

After testing insect-catching lamp technology at Tan Minh Duc Cooperative in Pham Tran Commune (Gia Loc) and Nam Vu Clean Agriculture in Lien Mac Commune (Thanh Ha) in 2022, the Center for Science and Technology Application and Variety Testing (Department of Science and Technology) continued to transfer technology to 2 melon growers in Kim Thanh and Thanh Mien.

Monitoring results at the melon gardens of Mr. Bui Van Duy's family in Kim Xuyen commune (Kim Thanh) and Mr. Vu Van Phong's family in Chi Lang Nam commune (Thanh Mien) showed that the households did not use pesticides but used insect-catching lamps instead, but there were no harmful insects in the gardens. The households used the lamps creatively, not keeping them fixed at one point but moving them continuously to many different locations in the garden. Just turn on the lights, the lamps use UVA light spectrum to attract butterflies, brown planthoppers, thrips, gnats, beetles... and destroy them with high voltage electric shock from a metal grid. The lamps have the characteristics of low power consumption, are safe and effective, easy to operate and clean...

After deducting the cost of electricity compared to having to buy pesticides, people save nearly 1.5 million VND/1000 m2 of crops/year. Using insect-catching lamps helps reduce environmental pollution, create clean products, protect the health of producers and consumers...

That is the result of the field workshop "Transfer of application of scientific and technological advances in light spectrum to flower and fruit tree production in the province" organized by the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Variety Testing (Department of Science and Technology) on the morning of June 14 in Chi Lang Nam commune (Thanh Mien).
