According to information from the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), by May 5, the unit will officially and simultaneously implement non-stop toll collection (ETC) at 5 airports including Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Phu Bai, Da Nang and Tan Son Nhat.

In addition to piloting non-stop toll collection at the two largest airports in the country, Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat, this March, the unit supplying and installing non-stop toll collection equipment has been constructing at three airports, including Cat Bi, Phu Bai and Da Nang.

According to ACV representative, car owners who already have ETC accounts used on national highways and expressways can travel through the airport toll lanes without having to stick an additional card or incur additional procedures, because these systems are integrated synchronously.

At projects under construction such as Tan Son Nhat Terminal 3 and Noi Bai Terminal 2 expansion, ACV will also invest in non-stop toll stations to help avoid traffic congestion.

Trial toll collection was implemented at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports from February 6. Statistics from February 6 to March 19 showed that 203,606 vehicles passed through the non-stop toll lane at Noi Bai Airport; 132,926 vehicles passed through the non-stop toll lane at Tan Son Nhat Airport.

A representative of Noi Bai International Airport said that through monitoring, the system operates stably, the rate of successful payment at the ETC lane is large, ensuring that vehicles can circulate and exit quickly, even during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, there is no congestion.

“The rate of customers successfully paying by ETC card at the non-stop toll collection test lane is about 90%. The number of vehicles passing through the non-stop toll collection lane is 1.8 times higher than the number of vehicles passing through the traditional lane, significantly reducing congestion at the exit from the overpass,” added a representative of Noi Bai International Airport.

There are currently nearly 5 million cars nationwide, of which 96% have tags and opened non-stop toll accounts. After implementing non-stop automatic toll collection at airports, the Ministry of Transport plans to apply ETC toll collection for many new services such as seaport fees, parking, insurance, and registration.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport requested ACV and relevant agencies and units to urgently deploy non-stop electronic toll collection services at airports to ensure progress, publicity, transparency, and compliance with legal regulations on bidding and other relevant regulations.
