"I only heard a loud noise, many large rocks rolled down, my whole body was stuck under the pile of rocks, I couldn't breathe, I thought I was dead...", the victim of the gold mine collapse in Bac Kan said.

On the afternoon of July 1, information from the People's Committee of Ngan Son district (Bac Kan) said that the authorities are trying to find Mr. Ma Van The (born in 1985, residing in Thuan Mang commune, Ngan Son district) - the remaining victim in the illegal gold mining tunnel collapse in Thong Lien Ket, Hiep Luc commune that occurred on the afternoon of June 30.

The two rescued victims were Mr. Ban Van Luu (born in 1989, residing in Hiep Luc commune, Ngan Son district, Bac Kan) and Mr. Trieu Van Xuan (born in 1985, residing in Hoa Tham commune, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang).

Mr. Ban Van Luu is being treated in the Emergency Department, Bac Kan Provincial General Hospital.

After being rescued from the gold cave, the two victims were given emergency treatment at Bac Kan General Hospital. Medical authorities determined that Mr. Xuan had a broken left rib and soft tissue injury, while Mr. Luu had a dislocated left shoulder and multiple soft tissue injuries.

Sitting on the hospital bed, Mr. Ban Van Luu said: "While I was busy prying the rock with a crowbar, I heard a loud bang, and the rock fell down on the cave entrance. The rock pushed me several meters away. The rock hit my shoulder blade, causing excruciating pain. At that moment, I braced myself, got up, and quickly crawled out of the gap at the cave entrance to escape death.".

Then, rocks continued to fall, blocking the cave entrance. Mr. Luu called out to the two people still trapped in the cave. After a while, only Mr. Xuan answered.

Having narrowly escaped, Mr. Luu quickly picked up the phone to call his relatives for help.

After deploying rescue work, at about 11:30 p.m. on June 30, the authorities rescued Mr. Trieu Van Xuan.

Recalling the incident, Mr. Xuan said that at the time of the landslide, he was standing at the cave entrance, after a loud noise, many large rocks rolled down.

"My whole body was trapped under the pile of rocks and dirt. The cave was deep and dark, I couldn't breathe, I thought I was dead. It was not until night, when the rescue team took me out for emergency treatment, when I woke up, that I realized I was still alive.", Mr. Xuan repeated.

According to Mr. Xuan, because of his family's difficult circumstances and the difficulty of raising his children, he went to the gold cave in Lien Ket village (Hiep Luc commune, Ngan Son district, Bac Kan) to dig for gold for hire. He had been at the gold cave for a few days when the incident happened.

Authorities in Bac Kan province are trying to find the last victim in the landslide.

The People's Committee of Ngan Son district added that due to the rugged terrain of the cliffs, slippery rain, a large volume of landslides of about 100m3, and the cave entrance being blocked, rescue work encountered many difficulties.

The location of the gold cave incident is about 500m from the main road. There is only a small, winding path leading up to the cave, making it impossible for rescue vehicles to reach the scene. Therefore, the rescue team only used hydraulic jacks to lift the rocks and carried out manual digging measures to search for the last victim.

Immediately after the incident, realizing the complexity of the rescue, the People's Committee of Bac Kan province sent an official dispatch requesting the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue to support the search for missing victims.
