The Vietnamese-English bilingual book continues to tell the story of '10 immortal flowers' on the Dong Loc T-junction battlefield, spreading the image of Vietnamese women to domestic and international audiences.
October 20, the book"Legend of Youth"by author-director Le Quy Duong was introduced at the Vietnam Women's Museum, telling the touching story of 10 girls at Dong Loc T-junction who heroically sacrificed to protect the traffic artery connecting the northern rear and the southern battlefield.
The book is over 140 pages thick, bilingual in Vietnamese and English, published by Stage Publishing House.
The book includes the play script."Legend of Youth"with articles and shares, feelings of domestic and foreign audiences about the play.
The portraits of ten heroic female Youth Volunteers who sacrificed their lives at Dong Loc T-junction are depicted through nine major scenes: For the life of the road, we are ready to sacrifice, If the enemy destroys one, we will do ten, All must be for the front line, Singing drowns out the sound of bombs, Love from the coordinates of death, Don't defend each other just because we are from the same hometown, Flocks of birds spread their wings and fly in the sky, That's how steel was tempered, Live a life worth living.
The show premiered in October 2023 at the experiential stage space of the Vietnam Women's Museum, attracting more than 3,000 domestic and international audiences, serving veterans and former youth volunteers for free. The show has become one of 15 attractive night tourism products in Hanoi.
Talking about the stage work and the newly released book, author-director Le Quy Duong shared: “Our generation was born in 1968, the year when the nation had to shed a lot of blood, including the sacrifice of ten heroines at the Dong Loc T-junction battlefield. And'Legend of Youth'is the gratitude, respectful remembrance offered to them".
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum, the program"Legend of Youth"has been cherished for many years with the desire to enrich the museum's activities in carrying out the mission of propagating and educating the historical traditions of Vietnamese women to domestic and international audiences.
"Along with the regular exhibition system, the program will be a connection and supplement to interactive activities to enhance the experience for the public and visitors who want to learn about stories related to the history of Vietnamese women," said Ms. Tuyet.
The story of ten young Vietnamese female martyrs has deeply moved Bangladeshi artists and will be staged as a live stage show at Dhaka National University in early 2024.
