US and South Korean troops will conduct a four-week joint military exercise in August as the two countries seek to strengthen their joint combat capabilities.
According to the announcement made by the South Korean Army on July 5, about 150 soldiers of this country will participate in the exercise scheduled to take place at the National Training Center in the Mojave Desert, California (USA) from August 2 to August 31.
The two sides will begin with training activities involving terrain reconnaissance and tactical discussions before conducting exercises on offensive and defensive campaign models over 10 days.
The exercise will also include field gun combat practice.
Since 2014, South Korea has sent between 90 and 150 soldiers to participate in regular joint exercises at the center.
However, this is the first time South Korea has deployed a company-level mechanized infantry unit to participate in this year's joint exercise.
South Korea plans to gradually increase the number and scale of joint exercises at the said training center based on the results achieved at the upcoming exercise.
