In a joint statement with the Israeli National Security Agency (Shin Bet), Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said the operation aimed to eliminate terrorist elements in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarm in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry said two men were killed as a result of Israeli military operations in the city of Jenin.
The operation came two days after Israel announced it had carried out an air strike on the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority said five people were killed in the attack.
Violence in the West Bank has increased amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas Islamist movement in the Gaza Strip.
According to statistics from both sides, more than 640 Palestinians and at least 19 Israelis have been killed in violence since the conflict broke out in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
