The South Korean military will double or more its number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by 2026 to more effectively respond to threats from North Korean UAVs.
Yonhap News Agency reported that on May 2, the South Korean Presidential Office announced that the country's military will double or more the number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by 2026 to respond more effectively to threats from North Korean UAVs.
The plan was outlined during the fourth meeting of the South Korean President's Defense Innovation Commission, which discussed ways to enhance the military's UAV capabilities and maximize existing combat capabilities.
According to the plan, the government will diversify UAV procurement by promoting faster commercial UAV purchases and accelerating the weaponization of UAVs, while increasing related budget spending.
