Hamas says it is ready to release 50 women and children held hostage in Gaza in exchange for a five-day ceasefire.
On November 13, the Al-Qassam Brigades - the armed wing of the Hamas Islamist movement that controls the Gaza Strip - said it had informed mediators that it was ready to release 50 hostages, including women and children, held hostage in Gaza in exchange for a five-day ceasefire.
According to Xinhua, in a statement on the Telegram messaging app, Abu Ubaida - a spokesman for the brigade - said: "Qatari mediators have made efforts to free the Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of 200 Palestinian children and 75 women."
He stressed that the ceasefire would ensure an end to hostilities and allow aid to reach the desperately needy people in the Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli figures, about 240 people have been taken hostage since the conflict with Hamas broke out on October 7.
