The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just announced the decision to include Hanoi pho in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.
On the evening of November 29 in Hanoi, the symbolic dish of the capital - Hanoi pho - was announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to be listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List within the framework of the Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2024.
This important event is not only a source of pride for the culinary community, but also affirms the value of pho as a unique heritage, playing a role in preserving and promoting traditional culture and developing the cultural industry in Hanoi.
According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, by 2023, the capital will have nearly 700 pho shops, concentrated in central districts such as Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Hai Ba Trung. Among them, traditional pho brands that have existed for more than two generations such as Pho Thin, Pho Bat Dan, Pho Ly Quoc Su... have become indispensable culinary cultural symbols of Hanoi.
In 2024, the Hanoi Food Culture Festival will continue to be held with the theme “Hanoi connects five continents”, gathering more than 80 booths from 16 embassies of countries and 8 provinces and cities. This is an opportunity for Hanoi pho to shine on the international stage, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnamese culture.
The special highlight of this year's festival is the program "Pho So Ha Thanh", where pho is not only preserved, but also developed in the digital age.
Pho artisans will demonstrate processing techniques and share secrets of making a bowl of pho; at the same time, Hanoi also aims to build a pho map, introducing to tourists the most famous pho restaurants in the capital.
Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2024 will take place until December 1.
