Over the weekend, Warner Bros.' "The Flash" took the top spot in the North American box office, dethroning the blockbuster "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" which it had won last weekend.
However, according to figures released by Exhibitor Relations on June 18, this DC Comics superhero film only brought in an opening revenue of 55.1 million USD, which analysts said was much lower than estimates when it was released in theaters.
The film revolves around the life story of Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller), also known as The Flash, the fastest superhero in the DC Comics universe.
Despite becoming a hero who saves the world, Barry still lives in family tragedy: his mother passed away for unknown reasons, his father was imprisoned on suspicion of murdering his wife.
One day, Barry discovers that his superpowers can help him travel back in time to the time when his mother was murdered to prevent the incident. Barry successfully saves his mother, but his decision causes the timeline to warp, opening up a multiverse and worlds to collide. To prevent the disaster, Barry must stay in the past to track down the whereabouts of Superman who has not yet appeared.
Taking the number 2 spot on the chart is "Elemental," with an opening weekend of $29.5 million. Pixar's latest animated film, Elemental is based on the four main elements of life: fire, water, earth, and air, which also have emotions and stories like humans.
The audience follows the journey of two characters, Wade and Ember, in a fantasy world where the basic elements of life coexist with interesting personifications. The two embark on a journey with an unrevealed goal, where they have the opportunity to understand each other amidst the countless differences that have existed since birth.
In third place is the animated superhero film "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" which helped Sony earn $27.8 million. Accordingly, the film's total domestic revenue has increased to more than $280 million and worldwide revenue reached $209 million.
Falling to fourth place is the movie "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" bringing in an additional 20 million USD, bringing the total revenue of this work to 103.6 million USD.
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is the 7th installment in the series of transforming robots directed by Steven Caple Jr. Set in 1994, the film revolves around the Earth facing the disaster of Unicron - a giant robot capable of swallowing planets.
Now, Optimus Prime, the Autobots, and the Maximals - robots first introduced on screen - join forces to confront the forces that threaten to destroy the planet.
