About 100 people were killed after gunmen from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group attacked a village in central Sudan on June 5.

A local armed group said the RSF attacked the village of Wad al-Noura in al-Jazira state in two waves with heavy artillery. The attack also left many people injured.

Conflict in Sudan broke out in mid-April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF. The fighting initially took place mainly in the capital Khartoum and its surrounding areas. After about 14 months of fighting, the conflict spread throughout the country.

According to United Nations statistics, since the conflict broke out, nearly 16,000 Sudanese have been killed, about 9 million people have been displaced, leading to a serious humanitarian crisis in the country.

Last year, the US and Saudi Arabia attempted to broker talks between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

However, so far, the warring parties in Sudan have not reached a ceasefire.
