Mr. Seah Kian Peng sworn in as Speaker of Singapore's Parliament

In his inaugural speech, Mr Seah Kian Peng called on parliamentarians to be cautious in their personal conduct, always remember and shoulder their responsibilities with dignity and a sense of responsibility.


New Speaker of Singapore Parliament sworn in

On the morning of August 2, Mr. Seah Kian Peng was officially sworn in as the head of the country's 11th Parliament.

New Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng (61 years old) is a member of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) representing the Marine Parade GRC constituency since 2006 and served as Deputy Speaker of Parliament during the 2011-2016 term.

He is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NTUC Enterprise and is expected to step down from this position at the end of this year.

In his inauguration speech, Mr. Seah Kian Peng pledged to carry out his duties objectively, firmly and fairly.

He also called on parliamentarians to be cautious in their personal conduct, always remember and shoulder their responsibilities with dignity and a constant sense of responsibility.

Mr. Seah Kian Peng was nominated by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to the position of Speaker of the Singapore Parliament.

The decision was announced on July 21, days after his predecessor, Tan Chuan-Jin, resigned due to personal misconduct.
