On March 6, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, led a working delegation to inspect the construction progress of the new Phong Chau bridge connecting Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts (Phu Tho province).
At the scene, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang highly appreciated the investor, contractor, supervision consultant and the coordination of Phu Tho province in implementing the project to build the new Phong Chau bridge.
The Minister emphasized that Phong Chau Bridge is an emergency construction project, of special importance to overcome damage caused by storms and floods, connect the transport network, contribute to socio-economic development, and ensure national defense and security in the region.
Minister Phan Van Giang suggested that in the coming time, investors, contractors, and supervision consultants need to continue to closely coordinate with relevant agencies of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Construction, and Phu Tho province to deploy construction in 5 teams, 3 shifts, 4 shifts, and clean up as they go.
Construction plans must be scientific, detailed, and absolutely ensure safety of inland waterways and labor safety.
Project Management Board and contractors must comply with State regulations on project management; control the quality of design documents in accordance with regulations; inspect and control construction materials and supplies to ensure quality according to design requirements.
In particular, the units have increased inspection and supervision of the site, urged contractors and consultants to speed up the implementation of signed packages, determined to complete the new Phong Chau bridge in early October 2025, 2 months ahead of schedule, serving the travel needs of the people and welcoming the Congress of the Party Committee of the Army.
According to design, the new Phong Chau bridge has a total length of over 652 m, of which the bridge length to the abutment is about 383 m.
The starting point of the project is on National Highway 32C, in Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District; the end point is in Van Xuan Commune, Tam Nong District. The bridge is 20.5 m wide, ensuring 4 lanes for motor vehicles.
The bridge is constructed using reinforced concrete beams and prestressed reinforced concrete. The main bridge consists of 3 continuous, balanced cantilever beam spans; reinforced concrete abutments and piers, and bored pile foundations.
The road connecting the two ends of the bridge ensures the scale of a level III plain road, with a design speed of 80km/h. The total investment is over 635 billion VND.
After more than 2 months, the construction unit has completed 79 bored piles for the new Phong Chau bridge, 10 days ahead of schedule as committed. Taking advantage of favorable weather, the unit is pouring concrete to cover the bottom of the pier, driving piles on the dike, digging the foundation to build the foundation and the pier body, and casting the bridge girders.
