Documentary Days to Celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory

On April 26, the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio announced that, with the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Cinema, the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio organized Documentary Days to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

Accordingly, 6 films will be shown on this occasion including: "Dien Bien Phu", "Dien Bien Memories", "The Story of Old Soldiers", "Accompanying History", "Sharing Fire with Dien Bien", "Dien Bien Phu - Hope".

In particular, the documentary “Dien Bien Phu” was made by artists: Nguyen Tien Loi, Nguyen Hong Nghi, Nguyen Phu Can in 1964, telling about the battle that lasted 56 days and nights in Dien Bien Phu, Northwest Vietnam. The French army was defeated. On the afternoon of May 7, 1954, all surviving French troops, including General De Castries, surrendered unconditionally.

The film “Dien Bien Memories” was produced in 1994, by artists: Lo Minh, Ho Tri Pho, Tran Qui Luc, Tran Van Thuy, Do Khanh Toan, Nguyen Thuoc. The film summarizes the movement of the sacred resistance war and ends with the historic campaign in the summer of 1954, restoring peace in Northern Vietnam. Through the stories of high-ranking officers of the Vietnam People's Army, in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, a truth was affirmed: When there is an ideal, people do not hesitate to sacrifice themselves to win.

The film “The Story of Old Soldiers” by director Duong Ngoc Hoa, produced in 2017, is the memories of veterans - brave soldiers in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign 65 years ago.

The film “Sharing the Fire with Dien Bien” by director Nguyen Sy Bang, produced in 2024, aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory - a glorious milestone, ending the nation's resistance war against French colonialism. The film praises the contributions of the army and people of Inter-Zone V to the nation's resistance war, especially supporting the final battle of our army on the Dien Bien battlefield. Thereby affirming the strategic vision of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh, the ingenious military art of the Central Military Commission and the leaders of Inter-Zone V in the last two years of the resistance war (1953-1954).

The film "Dien Bien Phu - Hope" was produced in 1984, by artists Dao Trong Khanh, Luu Xuan Thu, Luu Ha. The film "Accompanying History" was produced by artists Nguyen Quang Tuan - Nguyen Ngoc Dieu in 2024. The film summarizes the campaign, the significance and lessons of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory. After the victory, Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline militia chose Dien Bien as their new homeland. Together, they contributed to reviving the old battlefield. 70 years of war have passed, and today Dien Bien is thriving in all aspects. Continuing to promote the spirit of Dien Bien Phu Victory, our entire Party, army and people are determined to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, arousing and realizing the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country.

A representative of the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio said that these are films made by the studio's artists during the fiercest years of the war against the French colonialists and the process of building and developing the country up to the present day. After 70 years of construction and development, Dien Bien Phu has become a bright spot in the Northwest region, its appearance changes every day, now Dien Bien Phu is an economic, cultural, and tourist center, people's lives are increasingly improved, the lives of ethnic minorities are prosperous and happy in peace.

The Dien Bien Phu documentary days hope to be a bridge between the audience and the nation's history, between the heroic land of Dien Bien and the whole country so that generations will forever be grateful, thankful and proud because our ancestors created the heroic history and position of Vietnam today.

The film will be screened free of charge to the public from May 3 to May 5 at the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio (465 Hoang Hoa Tham, Ba Dinh, Hanoi).
