Phu Quoc, Hoi An, Da Lat and the Northwest region are expected to be fully booked during the Lunar New Year, while room occupancy rates in many Central destinations are currently only above 50%.
According to data from the Mustgo booking platform with 2,000 hotel partners nationwide, the number of guests booking rooms at tourist destinations during the Lunar New Year this year is quite slow and customers tend to book close to the date.
Hotels in the Central region from Da Nang to Phan Thiet still have many vacant rooms. In Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, the international 5-star hotel group has an average occupancy rate of over 50%. The local 5-star hotel group has about 80% occupancy, and the three main holidays of February 11-13 are almost fully booked.
Movenpick Cam Ranh representative said that the number of bookings for February 10-14 is over 55% and is expected to be 90% full. The main markets include Korea, Vietnam and a small group of Chinese guests.
The situation in Quy Nhon is somewhat slower, the 5-star segment is reaching 30-35%. 3-4 star accommodations are reaching 50% capacity. To attract guests, many places in Quy Nhon are reducing prices and removing Tet surcharges, along with promotional programs for early booking and free upgrades. Quy Nhon is mainly a domestic tourist destination this time.
Many hotels in Da Nang have also removed Lunar New Year surcharges to attract guests. Currently, 3-4 star accommodations and 5 star hotels in the city only reach about 40% capacity. The number of guests booked at 5 star beachfront hotels is higher, reaching over 60%.

Meanwhile, other coastal tourist destinations in the South are also waiting for visitors. In Vung Tau and Phan Thiet, the 3-4 star accommodation segment only reaches about 30-40%, the 5 star segment is higher, about 60-70%.
In the Northeast, the Quang Ninh coastal area recorded below-average room bookings. Hotels of 3 stars and above achieved 30-40% occupancy. Cruise products were more popular with customers, reaching over 80% occupancy.
The number of hotel bookings in the Northwest region increased during the New Year holiday. Pham Thi Hong Dung, manager of Y Ty Dai Ngan homestay, explained that the increase in guests was due to the snow and ice effect in January. During the Lunar New Year holiday, Y Ty is always an attractive destination.
"My room occupancy rate is currently around 50% because there are more rooms than other accommodations in the center. The number of guests is expected to increase in the next few days," said Ms. Dung.
In Sa Pa, the 3-star hotel segment is almost fully booked; 4- and 5-star hotels are at 80-85% occupancy. Guests mainly booked rooms during the period of February 11-13 (the 2nd and 4th days of Tet). The number of rooms in Dong Van district, Ha Giang, is similar with an occupancy rate of about 85-88%. Accommodations with vacant rooms are mainly concentrated in Meo Vac district.
In Yen Bai, the luxury resort Le Champ Tu Le and Homestay Y Ty Clouds said there were no more rooms available until the 5th day of Tet.
Hoi An and Phu Quoc have reported reaching maximum capacity, thanks to international visitors.
In Hoi An, a representative of Bel Marina Hoi An Resort said that since mid-January, the hotel has recorded 95% room occupancy during Tet. Similarly, Emerald Hoi An Riverside Resort has also achieved 97% room occupancy. Foreign guests account for 70-80%, mainly Korean guests.
The number of 3-star and above rooms in Phu Quoc is almost full. Villa products in the south of the island are also almost fully booked. Room occupancy on the pearl island has increased thanks to the large number of foreign visitors. In the first quarter, Phu Quoc continuously welcomed foreign delegations.

Another destination, Da Lat, also has high occupancy rates during the Lunar New Year, reaching 80-90%, according to Mustgo data. The Colline Hotel near Da Lat Market is fully booked from the 3rd to the 6th day of the Lunar New Year. The MerPerle Hotel has no vacancies from the 1st to the 7th day of the Lunar New Year. Da Lat is the most popular and searched destination for domestic tourists during the Lunar New Year, according to Booking.
Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Thao, Sales Director of Mustgo, assessed that for the Lunar New Year 2024, domestic customers tend to book rooms close to the date, about 5-7 days before departure. The number of tourists traveling during the Giap Thin Lunar New Year is about 2/3 compared to last year, partly due to cost factors. High domestic airfares have caused many tourists to switch to foreign destinations.
