Japan recorded record high temperatures last October, marking the hottest October since records began in 1898.

Data from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) released on November 1 showed that the average temperature in October across the country exceeded the normal temperature by 2.21 degrees Celsius.

Regionally, temperatures in the North were 1.9 degrees Celsius higher on average, while temperatures in the East and West increased by 2.6 degrees Celsius.

Cities such as Kyoto, Nagano and central Tokyo experienced significant heatwaves, with average October temperatures rising by 3.2 degrees Celsius, 3.1 degrees Celsius and 2.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

The JMA forecasts that November temperatures will likely remain above average, although colder air is expected to move in during the second half of next week, potentially leading to more drastic temperature fluctuations.

High temperatures in Japan have persisted since July, raising concerns about the frequency of such unseasonably warm conditions.
