What do rich people spend money on?

Reddit users shared stories they knew about rich people.

Toilets costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, private jets for dogs, “hidden yachts” and special bathrooms for cats are just some of the things the super-rich are spending their money on.

Private jet for pets

A dog has been booked on a private jet for training.

A super-rich woman’s dog was sent for training in the hope that it would learn practical skills upon return: “A woman who owns a small private jet business once told me that someone paid to charter their dog (alone) to New York for training. The flight with only one passenger cost $45,000.”

Toilet costs 100,000 USD

Many rich people spend $100,000 on a toilet

“I know someone who has a $100,000 toilet,” one person wrote.

It's unclear whether the toilet is actually made of 100% gold, but for that amount of money it probably is.

“Does it give you a sense of satisfaction every time you use it, when people are willing to pay so much for a toilet?”, is one of the users' reactions.

Private bathroom for cats

The cats of the super rich will not like to share the bathroom.

A pet sitter who used to work for a very rich man took care of the owner's cat. "There were lots of televisions, in almost every room. The strangest thing was that there was a separate bathroom for the cat.

“There is a TV showing cat cartoons, a fancy litter box, and paintings of cats.”

Hidden Cruise

A second yacht to carry luggage is a must for the super rich

When you're super rich and one yacht isn't enough, you'll need another one to carry your helicopter and jet skis.

A Reddit user who lives near the beach said he saw a “strange-looking yacht.” “A crew member explained to me that it was a ‘hidden yacht.’”

“You see, when you get super rich and own multiple yachts, you don’t want to use that yacht for your entertainment and to store your jet skis and helicopters. You also don’t want your crew to sleep on it. So you buy a hidden yacht to store your stuff and house your crew.

Forget a supercar

A group of friends left their $360,000 Lamborghini Aventador behind while out and about.

One driving instructor recalled a story about a group of guests who rented a track to drive their supercars for the day. “At the end of the day, everyone said their goodbyes and got in their cars to leave. After they left, we realized that they had left their Lamborghini Aventador at the track.”

It seems like the car's $360,000 price tag is a piece of cake for them.

Picasso painting in the bathroom

An art lover hung a Picasso painting in his bathroom.

An art student, who worked part-time as a gardener, recalls how one of his customers eagerly showed him his collection of artworks.

“We work in one of the wealthiest areas of the country. Some clients are really eager to show me their art collections when they find out I study art. I remember standing in the bathroom one day in my dirty gardening clothes, and there was a Picasso above the toilet.”

Smell the cow

A rich man built his bedroom above a cowshed.

City dwellers recognize the smell when they visit the countryside, but for the rich it becomes a rather bizarre idea. One chef recounts how the owner made a strange request to the architect when building a house.

He “wanted the house to be built so that his bedroom was right above the cowshed, a place where he could fall asleep listening and smelling the cows.”

Paying for a vacation you didn't take

Describing the life of a super-rich person, one person shared: “He hired someone to take his credit card and make him take a fake, very expensive trip to Europe. But in reality, he went to Mexico with his mistress during that time. The reason was because he was in the process of divorce and he didn’t want any evidence of his affair to affect the proceedings, so he had someone create a whole alibi.”
