Netflix has stopped advertising and releasing unauthorized games on its app, on Apple AppStore and Google Play Store in Vietnam.
As reported, recently, Netflix users in Vietnam were surprised when, in addition to movies, more than 90 mobile games of many different genres appeared on this application.
The games are released by Netflix on its application and through two application stores, Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store. To play these games, in addition to downloading directly from the application stores, users can also download the game directly on the Netflix application. After the game is downloaded and installed, to play the game, users will log in to the registered Netflix account.
On April 10, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Information and Communications) sent an official dispatch to Netflix Company, requesting compliance with Vietnamese laws when providing online video game services.
Through reviewing and checking online services, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information discovered that Netflix Company was advertising unlicensed video games on the Netflix application provided to Vietnamese users, and at the same time providing many video games on the App Store Vietnam and Google Play Store Vietnam without being licensed to operate in Vietnam. This is a violation of Article 31, Decree 72/2013/ND-CP of the Government regulating the management, provision and use of Internet services and online information.
The Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information requires Netflix to stop advertising and releasing video games on the Netflix application and application stores before April 25, 2024. In case Netflix fails to comply with the above requests, the Ministry of Information and Communications will coordinate with relevant state management agencies to handle the case in accordance with Vietnamese law.
After receiving the document, Netflix quickly contacted the management agency to learn about the legal regulations on the management of video game releases in Vietnam. After that, the platform decided to stop advertising and remove all video games on the Netflix application and on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This unit also hopes to continue to receive attention and guidance from management agencies during its operations in Vietnam.
According to the reporter's records, from last week until now, many domestic Netflix users have been unable to continue playing games on this platform, and the "game bar" on the application has also disappeared.
