On March 29, Chinese technology group Huawei announced that its profits will more than double in 2023, mainly thanks to positive business results of its digital and cloud computing segments.
Huawei said it made a profit of 87 billion yuan ($12 billion) last year, more than double the 35.6 billion yuan in 2022, but short of the record 113.7 billion yuan in 2021.
Revenue also rose 9.6% year-on-year to 704.2 billion yuan ($97.4 billion) in 2022. Revenue from cloud computing rose 22% to 55.3 billion yuan. Revenue from digital business increased 3.5%.
Huawei's consumer division, which sells smartphones and other electronics, also posted a 17.3% revenue increase in 2023.
Huawei's rotating chairman Ken Hu said the company has gone through many challenges in recent years, but has still grown.
In 2019, under US President Donald Trump, the White House imposed strict restrictions on US technology exports to Huawei, placing the company on a trade “blacklist.” The Biden administration has since stopped granting licenses for US companies to sell products and services to Huawei.
After facing a series of US restrictions, the group shifted to cooperating with businesses and governments, and developing cloud computing.
Huawei is still the world's leading manufacturer of 5G equipment.
