Doctor monitors and re-examines patients after heart transplant

On March 17, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital announced that its doctors had successfully performed a heart transplant on a 14-year-old patient in Binh Thuan.

Patient Nguyen Huu Truong Thinh (14 years old, Ham Cuong commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan) has suffered from heart failure for many years.

Truong Thinh was diagnosed with heart disease when he was only 4 months old. Thinh's family was not well off, his father was a teacher (the sole breadwinner). Thinh's mother had a traffic accident in 2014 and was paralyzed, unable to take care of herself. For many years, he had to go in and out of the hospital, undergoing 2 surgical interventions to maintain his life. Heart failure made the patient's health increasingly exhausted, putting the family in an extremely difficult situation.

When all hope was lost, a miracle happened, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital announced that they had found a heart that matched Thinh's. To support the transplant costs, philanthropists also joined hands to donate more than 200 million VND to Thinh's family.

The successful heart transplant brought Thinh a miraculous recovery. After a period of recovery, Thinh was able to return home amid the joy and happiness of his family.

Having escaped the jaws of death, Thinh's greatest wish was to go to school with his peers. The months in bed made Thinh yearn more than ever to go to school, to study and to fulfill his unfinished dream.
