Microsoft has officially stopped updating WordPad and is expected to remove the word processor from the list of applications built into the Windows operating system.
The world's leading software corporation Microsoft has just officially announced the removal of WordPad from the Windows operating system in the next update.
WordPad is the most basic word processor built into every version of Microsoft's operating system since Windows 95 was released on August 24, 1995.
With WordPad, users can create documents, such as letters, lists, etc. In addition, this application also has the ability to edit and save files in many text formats such as (.txt), (.rtf), or (.doc, .docx) and even (.odt) files.
However, starting with Windows 12 (expected to be released in 2024), WordPad will no longer be included in the group of built-in applications.
Microsoft recommends that users use Word instead of WordPad for word processing, and for users who do not need rich text support, Notepad is recommended.
“WordPad will no longer be updated and will be removed in future versions of Windows. We recommend that users use Microsoft Word to edit text documents in .doc or .rtf format or use Windows Notepad to edit .txt documents.”, Microsoft informed.
The announcement of the “death” of WordPad comes just a day after Microsoft revealed that it was upgrading Notepad with features like auto-save and auto-restore of tabs.
The world's leading software maker first updated its Notepad app in 2018, and then went on to add tabs to the word processor in Windows 11. However, WordPad has barely seen any new updates since Windows 8.
