Domestic passenger volume at Noi Bai airport on weekends has exceeded 30% compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic. The risk of terminal overload is predicted.
According to information from Noi Bai airport representatives, the volume of transportation through this airport is growing dramatically. On average, in the first days of June, there were 565 flights per day, serving more than 89,000 passengers (of which 80,000 were domestic passengers and 9,000 were international passengers).
"Flight volume at Noi Bai International Airport has recovered strongly, especially during the summer vacation, when people's travel demand increases, with almost every day being a peak day," said an airport representative.
Traffic congestion at Noi Bai airport toll station remains a concern during peak times.
On weekends, the airport recorded a passenger volume of more than 95,000 passengers with more than 600 flights/day. This volume is equivalent to the peak summer season of 2019. Domestic peak summer volume alone increased by 30-35% compared to the peak summer season of 2019 and increased by 15% compared to the peak on April 30.
It is expected that the peak summer time this year at Noi Bai will last from early June to the end of July.
To prevent congestion, Noi Bai Airport recommends that passengers travel to/from the airport by bus or public transport. The airport will open all exit ticket gates, arrange additional security and police forces to separate traffic lanes; request priority vehicles and shuttle vehicles for officials and employees not to park in front of Terminal T1, creating a smooth traffic flow for passengers.
Inside the terminal, the airport has prepared enough backup counters for airlines to increase flights during peak times. At the same time, a maximum of 22/22 scanners are opened one hour before each peak time to ensure the fastest traffic flow and proactively control the number of passengers right from the ID control positions.
