The Syrian rebel command has ordered its troops to withdraw from cities, replacing them with police units and internal security forces linked to the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group.
On December 10, the Syrian rebel command ordered its troops to withdraw from cities, replacing them with police units and internal security forces affiliated with the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on the same day that Israeli warplanes had launched airstrikes on military targets in Syria, including the Barzeh scientific research center and naval ships and weapons depots around the Latakia military port.
According to SOHR, Israel has carried out more than 300 air strikes across Syria since President Bashar al-Assad was overthrown, destroying "the most important military facilities" in the country. Israel fears that Syrian weapons depots will fall into the hands of extremists.
Earlier, an Israeli military spokesman denied that its forces had entered Syrian territory beyond the buffer zone separating Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, after Syrian sources said the incursion was just 25km from the capital Damascus.
"This information is not true, our forces did not leave the buffer zone," the spokesman said.
In 2018, the US-led Western coalition carried out airstrikes on the facility, accusing it of being part of Syria's "chemical weapons infrastructure".
