At a recent press conference on September 12 announcing the socio-economic situation of Dong Trieu town, Mr. Nguyen Van Cong, Secretary of the Dong Trieu Town Party Committee (Quang Ninh) said that the town People's Committee is directing the development of a plan to announce the planning and promote investment associated with a series of events related to the announcement of the establishment of Dong Trieu city in the coming time.

According to the Plan approved by the Prime Minister, Quang Ninh will upgrade 3 districts to city level before 2030, namely Dong Trieu, Quang Yen and Van Don. Specifically, in February 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Decision No. 80/QD-TTg approving the Plan for Quang Ninh province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. According to this plan, by 2025, Quang Ninh will have 13 administrative units with 13 urban areas.
By 2030, Quang Ninh province will have 12 administrative units with 13 urban areas. Quang Ninh will become a centrally-run city on the basis of forming an inner-city area including 7 cities: Ha Long, Cam Pha, Uong Bi, Mong Cai - Hai Ha, Dong Trieu, Quang Yen, Van Don and re-establishing Tien Yen town.
The 25th Congress of the Dong Trieu Town Party Committee, term 2020-2025, set the goal of upgrading Dong Trieu to meet the standards of a type II urban area by 2025. With the efforts of the local government and people, Dong Trieu changes every day with a new look, taking on the stature of a civilized, modern, dynamic urban area with synchronously invested infrastructure, gradually realizing the goal of becoming a city before 2025.
