Taking advantage of the shortage of medical gloves, the group provided false information to sign contracts and defrauded more than 1.7 million USD.
On May 30, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City opened a trial for Mr. Nguyen Nam Huy (41 years old), Ms. Do Thi Thu Mai (Huy's wife, 42 years old, both living in Binh Thanh) and Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai (41 years old, living in District 5) on charges of fraud and property appropriation.
The amount of money embezzled was determined to be more than 1.7 million USD.
The jury sentenced Nguyen Nam Huy to life in prison. Mai was sentenced to 12 years in prison and Thai to 4 years in prison for their violations.
According to the indictment, in May 2020, She Medical Company, run by Mr. Huy and Ms. Mai, was ordered by Homes Company (headquartered in Japan) through Bao Viet Japan Securities Company (in District 1) to purchase a large quantity of medical gloves.
When working with partners, Mr. Huy introduced himself as the son of the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, having business relationships with medical glove manufacturing companies, so he promised to be able to supply large quantities to Japanese partners.
Believing in the ability of Huy's company, Mr. K. (representative of Bao Viet Japan Securities Company) introduced and was authorized by Homes Company to sign the contract.
The two parties agreed to buy and sell medical gloves worth nearly 6 million USD (more than 140 billion VND). The partner transferred more than 1.7 million USD (equivalent to 41 billion VND) in deposit to Huy and his wife.
The goods for sale are Vglove nitrile powder-free medical gloves, quantity 100,000 boxes, sizes S, M, L divided in the ratio 3/5/2 respectively. Condition 100% new, origin VRG Khai Hoan Factory, Vietnam. Packing specification 100 pieces/box, one box contains 1,000 gloves.
When the agreed delivery time came, Huy and his wife did not fulfill their commitment, citing many reasons for delay. Homes Company repeatedly requested a refund of the deposit but failed, so they reported it to the authorities.
The amount of money embezzled was determined to be used by the defendants for personal purposes.
