This afternoon, October 5, in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, 4 earthquakes occurred, including one with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale.

According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Geophysics, on the afternoon of October 5, 4 consecutive earthquakes occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum.

Specifically, at 5:06 p.m., the Institute of Geophysics measured an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale, occurring at the coordinates of 14.895 degrees North latitude, 108.191 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km.

One minute later, another earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale also occurred at the coordinates 14.890 degrees North latitude, 108.197 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1km.

At 5:32 p.m. the same day, an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale and 8.1 km deep continued to occur at the above location.

At 18:21, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake occurred at the coordinates (14.890 degrees North latitude, 108.193 degrees East longitude), with a focal depth of about 8.1 km.

"All four earthquakes were assessed as having a disaster risk level of 0," said a representative of the Institute of Geophysics.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center of the Institute of Geophysics is continuing to monitor these earthquakes. Since the beginning of the year, this area has recorded more than 300 earthquakes.

Yesterday, October 4, there were also 2 earthquakes in this area. Specifically, at 15:43, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.3, the epicenter was about 8.1 km deep and at 0:03:46, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.2, the epicenter was about 8.1 km deep. Both of these earthquakes have a natural disaster risk level of 0.

Earthquakes in Kon Plong district are considered by experts to be stimulated earthquakes; occurring frequently and continuously since 2021 until now.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - Director of the Institute of Geophysics said that Kon Tum province in general and Kon Plong district in particular belong to a small fault zone. Earthquakes in this area have a magnitude of no more than 5.0. Although earthquakes in this area occur frequently, they have not reached a level that causes a risk warning.
