On May 19 and 20, the engineering force of the Provincial Military Command (CHQS) coordinated to successfully detonate 758 cluster bombs remaining from the war found in the premises of the People's Council and People's Committee headquarters of Hai Duong City.
The Chief of Staff (Provincial Military Command) assigned tasks to the force participating in bomb disposal.
Previously, on May 9, during the construction of a drainage ditch in the area of the headquarters of the People's Council and People's Committee of Hai Duong City, local people discovered some strange objects suspected to be bombs, so they temporarily stopped construction and reported it to the authorities.
Transport cluster bombs to the detonation site
Upon receiving the report, the provincial Military Command directed the engineering force to coordinate with other forces to block off the scene, inspect and handle the situation. Through inspection, the specialized agency determined that these were cluster bombs left over from the war. At the search location, the cluster bombs were stacked on top of each other, if not handled properly, they would cause mass detonation, which is very dangerous.
Transport bombs down the hole to detonate
To ensure the safety of the election activities and work, the City People's Committee and residential areas, the engineering force both searched, salvaged and neutralized, and immediately transported the explosives found from the scene. After 5 days of actively searching and handling, the engineering force found and transported 758 cluster bombs from the area to a safe gathering place.
The bombs were successfully detonated, ensuring safety in all aspects.
The above cluster bombs were detonated at the general training ground (An Phu ward, Kinh Mon). The detonation was successful, ensuring safety in all aspects.
Engineers search the hole that was just detonated before filling it.
This is the second time since the beginning of the year that the provincial military command's engineering force has successfully searched for and disposed of found bombs (including 1 chemical bomb and 758 cluster bombs). Since 2018, the provincial military command's engineering force has successfully disposed of and detonated more than 1,500 bombs and explosives of various types found in the area.
