Hai Duong recovers quickly after historic storm

After more than 2 months since storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) passed, the socio-economy in Hai Duong has recovered, developed normally, and people's lives have stabilized.

Despite heavy losses due to storm No. 3, the province's economic growth in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at 9.31%, ranking 11th in the country.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Duong province has just decided to end the emergency situation regarding natural disasters in the province after the province basically overcame the damage caused by storm No. 3, the socio-economic development, and people's lives returned to normal.

Over the past two months, the damage caused by storm No. 3 has been basically overcome by the joint efforts of all levels, sectors, agencies, units and people of all walks of life.

The agricultural sector recovered quickly after the storm. Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in the province mobilized maximum manpower and machinery to basically complete the harvest of the winter-spring rice area. The progress of winter crop planting was faster than last year with about 20,000 hectares, reaching 93% of the plan. Currently, early winter vegetables are entering the main harvest period, with good prices and farmers making a profit.

Farmers quickly restored production after the storm, many winter vegetable areas have been harvested and are selling well.

Flooded production areas outside the dykes have revived. Many riverside alluvial lands in Nam Sach and Cam Giang districts have been covered with carrots and many other vegetables. Farmers in some localities such as Tu Ky and Thanh Ha have been and are in the season of harvesting earthworms.

Most of the greenhouses, net houses, and fish cages have been completely restored by local farmers. Livestock, poultry, and aquaculture are being restored quickly and smoothly. Many activities to support farmers in restoring production have been implemented.

Enterprises immediately repaired damaged factory roofs and maintained stable production. Despite losses caused by the storm, the province's economic growth in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at 9.31%, ranking 11th in the country and fourth in the Red River Delta.

Infrastructure of government offices, schools, and public works in the province that were damaged or had their roofs blown off have been basically repaired and restored. The system of trees, power lines, telecommunications, traffic signs, dykes, and canals affected by the storm have been repaired.

Leaders of the Fatherland Front of Nam Sach district symbolically supported a family in Thai Tan commune to rebuild their house whose roof was completely blown off by the storm.

Over the past 2 months, Hai Duong has promoted and mobilized maximum resources to support many disadvantaged families to restore their housing, production, and stabilize their lives after the storm.

From September 7 to 9, storm No. 3 made landfall directly in Hai Duong province, causing serious damage to people and property. After the storm dissipated, Hai Duong continued to be affected by prolonged heavy rains, rising upstream floods and discharges from hydroelectric reservoirs, causing the water levels of rivers in the province to rise very quickly, exceeding the design level, reaching the highest level in recorded history.

On September 12, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee decided to declare a natural disaster emergency in the province. Requesting provincial departments, branches, sectors, unions, People's Committees at all levels, agencies and units to focus on implementing urgent projects to prevent and overcome the consequences of natural disasters.
