Before, during and after Tet At Ty 2025, Hai Duong Forest Protection Department maintains forces on duty to control, protect, prevent and fight forest fires 24/7.
Information from the leaders of the provincial Forest Protection Department said that by January 21, the campaign to clean up and sanitize the forest area damaged by storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) in Hai Duong had ended.
The forces have cleared and trimmed over 223 hectares of forest with fallen trees, creating 43 km of firebreaks... for many areas of protective forests and special-use forests in communes and wards with forests in Chi Linh city and Kinh Mon town.
Previously, from January 3 to 20, implementing the direction of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Chi Linh City and Kinh Mon Town chaired and coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, military units, police and People's Committees of communes and wards with forests to mobilize thousands of people along with vehicles and machinery to clean up and sanitize the forest area damaged by storm No. 3.
However, in reality, there are still many forest areas damaged by Typhoon Yagi that have not been cleaned, broken, uprooted and dead trees have not been collected, combined with a thick layer of vegetation that could potentially pose a high risk of forest fires during the Lunar New Year 2025.
To serve the people to enjoy Tet and welcome spring safely, the Provincial Forest Protection Department will mobilize at least 70% of the staff of its affiliated units to be on duty 24/7 during Tet At Ty 2025, and maintain 50% of the staff on duty if it rains.
Previously, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development assigned the provincial Forest Protection Department to strengthen inspection and closely monitor forest areas, promptly detect, prevent and handle acts of illegal burning, destruction, exploitation and encroachment of forests and forest land, and prevent hot spots of forest fires and deforestation.
Before, during and after Tet At Ty, assign forces to be on duty 24/7 at the district headquarters to promptly handle and effectively resolve arising situations.
The Department assigned the Forest Management Board to strengthen the urging and reminding of forest contracted households to regularly guard against forest fires and be ready to participate in firefighting if a forest fire occurs. Timely assess and count the extent of damage caused by forest fires and find solutions to restore damaged forest areas.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong has also requested Chi Linh City, Kinh Mon Town, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate and strictly implement the directives from the Central Government and the province on forest fire management, protection, and prevention.
Review and supplement plans and strategies for forest fire prevention and fighting in the dry season of 2024 - 2025, have plans to mobilize forces to participate in fire prevention and handling of forest fire situations that may occur before, during and after Tet At Ty 2025 according to the motto "4 on-site".
Hai Duong has over 1,500 hectares of special-use forests and over 4,000 hectares of protective forests in 31 communes and wards of Chi Linh City and Kinh Mon Town. After storm No. 3, the whole province had about 1,250 hectares of forest damaged, mainly acacia, eucalyptus, and pine trees; of which about 250 hectares were damaged by 70% or more. The large area of damaged forest combined with dry weather and thick vegetation were the causes of a number of forest fires in recent times.
