The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature to Norwegian author Jon Fosse for his plays and inventive prose that give voice to the unspeakable.
On the afternoon of October 5, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature belongs to Norwegian writer and screenwriter Jon Fosse, "for his creative plays and prose that have given voice to the unspeakable."
The Nobel Prize in Literature is the fourth prize to be announced in the 2023 Nobel season and the 116th Nobel Prize in Literature since 1901.
In 2022, the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to French writer Annie Ernaux.
Ernaux, 82, known for her autobiographical works that reflect her personal life from a sociological perspective, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for “the courage and sharpness with which she explores the origins, the discord and the limitations of personal memory.”
