On the afternoon of August 12, the opening ceremony of the Toyota Cup 2023 national U9 football tournament took place at the Bac Ninh Provincial Multi-purpose Gymnasium.
Participating in this year's national U9 tournament are 16 teams: Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, T&T Bac Giang, Kelme Quang Ninh, HYS Hanoi, Hanoi Club, Hai Phong, Viet Hung Thanh Hoa, Song Lam Nghe An, Dak Nong, Kon Tum, Binh Phuoc, PSFC Gia Lai, Luxcom Ngoc Hung, Thuan An Binh Duong, Van Tam Dong Nai.
The teams will be divided into 4 groups and compete in a format in which the two teams with the best results from each group will compete in the quarterfinals. The winning teams in the quarterfinals will compete in the semi-finals and the two winning teams in the semi-finals will compete in the finals. The organizing committee will award collective and individual prizes to the teams and athletes with excellent results. Toyota Vietnam Automobile Company is the main sponsor of the tournament.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the tournament, journalist Nguyen Phan Khue, Editor-in-Chief of the Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee, emphasized: "As the organizer of the youth football tournament for many years, the Young Pioneers and Children Newspaper has high expectations for this year's U9 tournament. Besides creating a playground for children to practice their health, through the tournament, the Organizing Committee will find good players, players with football qualities to nurture and train them into professional players in the future."
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the match between U9 Bac Ninh and T&T Bac Giang took place. With the enthusiastic cheers of the home crowd, right after the opening whistle, Bac Ninh players rushed to attack, pressuring the opponent. With confidence and determination, Bac Ninh players calmly neutralized all attacks from the opponent, and at the same time deployed dangerous attacks.
Right in the first half, the U9 Bac Ninh team took a 2-goal lead over T&T Bac Giang. Continuing the momentum, right in the first minutes of the second half, the Bac Ninh players continued to score another goal to take the lead 3-0. It was not until the last minutes of the match that T&T Bac Giang had many notable attacks.
After many missed opportunities, it was not until the last minutes of the second half that Bac Giang players scored a goal to reduce the score to 1-3.
Before the opening ceremony, the first 5 matches in groups C and D also took place.
The national U9 tournament took place in Bac Ninh from August 12 to August 22.
