According to the usual schedule, next week's gasoline price adjustment period will fall on the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year.
However, according to the representative of the Director of the Domestic Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, this operating period will be moved to the 4th day of Tet, in accordance with Decree 80 dated November 17, 2023 on amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 95/2021/ND-CP dated November 1, 2021 and Decree No. 83/2014/ND-CP dated September 3, 2014 of the Government on petroleum trading.
Specifically, in Decree 80, the regulations on the time for managing gasoline prices are as follows: The time for managing gasoline prices is implemented every Thursday.
In case the price management period coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday, it will be implemented as follows: If Thursday falls on the last day of the Lunar New Year (29th or 30th of Lunar New Year), the petrol price management will be implemented on the preceding Wednesday. If Thursday falls on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd day of Lunar New Year, the petrol price management period will be implemented on the 4th day of Lunar New Year.
In case the price management period coincides with a holiday according to regulations, it will be implemented as follows: If Thursday coincides with the first day of the holiday, the petrol price management period will be implemented on the preceding Wednesday. If Thursday coincides with the remaining holidays, the petrol price management period will be implemented on the first working day after the holiday.
In case the price of petroleum products fluctuates abnormally, affecting socio-economic development and people's lives, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is responsible for reporting to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision on the appropriate time to manage petroleum prices.
In the most recent adjustment period (January 23), gasoline prices were adjusted down after 3 consecutive increases since the beginning of the new year 2025. Specifically, according to the adjustment by the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline decreased by 158 VND/liter, not higher than 20,592 VND/liter. The price of RON95 gasoline decreased by 78 VND/liter, not higher than 21,142 VND/liter.
Meanwhile, the prices of all types of oil increased simultaneously. Specifically, the price of diesel increased by 412 VND/liter, not higher than 20,194 VND/liter. The price of kerosene increased by 404 VND/liter, not higher than 20,110 VND/liter. The price of fuel oil increased by 571 VND/kg, not higher than 17,752 VND/kg.
During this operating period, the management agency continues not to set aside or use the price stabilization fund for all commodities.
Thus, this is the first time gasoline prices have decreased in 2025.
