The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has successfully negotiated with Millon auction house to transfer the golden seal of King Minh Mang to Vietnam.
On the evening of November 14 (Hanoi time), the Ministry announced that negotiations on the repatriation of the Hoang De Chi Bao golden seal had been successful, "in the spirit of consensus and understanding between the two sides and the friendly cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the French Republic". The Ministry will then coordinate with Millon and relevant agencies to bring the golden seal back to the country as soon as possible, ensuring the legal regulations of the two countries.

"Repatriating the golden seal to Vietnam is not only to supplement and complete the collections of antiques, treasures, and cultural heritages that have been lost or 'bleeding' abroad, but also to affirm the position and influence of the nation...", said a representative of the Ministry.
The Ministry's working delegation, including Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hien - Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Mr. Nguyen Van Doan - Director of the National Museum of History... and many other members, went to France a few days ago for negotiations.

Previously, Millon announced changes to the auction schedule twice. Currently, the auction of the Unique: Rare Golden Seal of King Minh Mang scheduled to take place on November 18 is still posted on the website. A representative of the Department of Cultural Heritage said that Millon changed the schedule to create conditions for the Vietnamese side to have more time to negotiate for a direct purchase.

Millon Auction House is offering the gold seal of King Minh Mang for 2-3 million euros (48 to 72 billion VND). The artifact is named the Rare Golden Seal of Emperor Minh Mang (1791-1841), 10.4 cm high, weighs 10.78 kg, has a square face, and measures 13.8 x 13.7 cm.
The top of the seal is engraved with two lines: "Minh Mang tu nien nhi nguyet so tu nhat cat thoi chu tao" (Made on February 4, the 4th year of King Minh Mang's reign, February 4, 1823) and "Thap thanh hoang kim trong nhi bach bat thap lang cuu tien nhi phan" (Made of gold, weighs 280 taels, 9 chi, 2 phan, about 10.7 kg). According to the book "Kham dinh Dai Nam hoi dien su le", the seal was used for public and political activities of the Nguyen Dynasty such as festivals, granting grace, pardoning, inspecting localities, issuing royal decrees to foreign countries... The representative of the Department affirmed that the Emperor's seal is the largest, most beautiful, precious and important golden seal of the Nguyen Dynasty.
