Casemiro played poorly in MU's 3-4 loss to Chelsea in round 31 of the Premier League in the early morning of April 5.
On social media, Man Utd fans shared a video recording the situation that took place in the first half of the match between Chelsea and Manchester United. Casemiro stood close but moved slowly and had no impact on Nicolas Jackson. He left his teammates behind to face the dangerous attack situation of the home team.
"Casemiro should retire," one fan said. "Last summer, Casemiro said he would fix the midfield for MU. Just one year later, he's the one causing the problems," a second person commented. "Sell Casemiro to the Middle East," another fan said.
Casemiro's form has been in free fall this season. The former Real Madrid star is a shadow of himself with his superficial playing style, fear of collision and constant positional errors. In MU's first goal, Casemiro did not keep up with Conor Gallager and let the English midfielder shoot into the home team's net.
Not only Casemiro, another player MU bought from Real Madrid, Raphael Varane, also failed to prove his influence at Old Trafford. On the day his teammate was heavily criticized, Varane also disappointed fans when he had to leave the field after the first half due to injury. This duo cost Man Utd a transfer fee of more than 100 million pounds. However, the mark they left was too modest.
According to the British press, MU is expected to release both players after the 2023/24 season. Casemiro will be sold, while Varane will not have his contract renewed and will have to leave on a free transfer. Currently, Casemiro and Varane both receive a salary of no less than 300,000 pounds per week at Old Trafford.
