With a novel script and a theme rarely explored on the big screen, the Vietnamese film 'Chi-in-law' opens up a new perspective on the complex relationship between sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
The film revolves around the second sister (played by Viet Huong), the daughter-in-law in a family. Unfortunately, her husband passed away early, so she had to stay behind to take care of the family's altar and four younger siblings-in-law played by Hong Dao (played by Ky), Le Khanh (Thu), Ngoc Trinh (Nhu) and Dinh Y Nhung (Anh).
During her mother-in-law’s death anniversary, the second sister announced to the neighbors that she would be renovating the family temple, but her brothers-in-law had never heard of this. From there, conflicts arose, words were exchanged, and secrets and hidden pains were revealed that no one dared to speak of before…
While family stories often revolve around familiar relationships such as: parents - children, siblings or mother-in-law - daughter-in-law, the film "Sister-in-law" chooses a unique aspect, delving into the complexity between sisters-in-law and sisters-in-law. The film also touches on issues surrounding women, bringing a modern and sharp perspective, creating a difference compared to works with the same theme.
The cast performed quite well. Among them, Viet Huong and Hong Dao performed the best, acting as if they were not acting, showing the suffering of women who had to suppress many tiring things inside, just waiting for a slight catalyst to burst out. While Viet Huong played the role of the serious and difficult Second Sister, Hong Dao sometimes made the audience feel silent and sympathetic.
The film is a comedy and psychological film, directed by Khuong Ngoc, and will premiere on December 20 at theaters in Hai Duong City.
