There are many ways to save fuel with your personal car. Below, experts will give advice to save gas for your car.
Speed control
“Try to stick to the speed limit, and you’ll save a lot of fuel,” experts say. Driving 8 to 15 km over the speed limit might get you to your destination a little faster, but you’ll pay more because you’ll run out of gas faster.”
“Fuel economy peaks at about 50 mph for most cars, then slow down,” says Ellen Edmonds, director of public affairs at AAA. “Slowing your highway speed by 5 to 9 mph can increase your fuel economy by up to 14 percent.”
It is recommended to use cruise control when you are driving on the highway to maintain a steady speed.
Plan ahead
Planning ahead can sometimes help. “Plan your route ahead of time to minimize unnecessary backtracking,” says Edmonds. “Avoid rush hour. Combine errands into one, and go to multi-purpose areas where you can do multiple things like banking or shopping…”
Car maintenance on time
“Make sure your tires are properly inflated,” says Woroch. “This will maximize fuel efficiency so you don’t waste gas.”
Keeping your vehicle in good condition with properly inflated tires and regular inspections is especially important to avoid higher fuel costs.
Pay attention to acceleration and deceleration
“Be gentle on the accelerator,” Woroch advises. “Constantly accelerating too quickly wastes fuel.”
Smoother acceleration and deceleration is also better for the tires.
Pay attention to traffic ahead and try to maintain momentum as you approach traffic lights to avoid unnecessary stopping and starting.
Stop filling up with premium gasoline
If you can fill your car with either premium or regular, Edmonds recommends using regular. “If regular is what your car recommends, that’s all you need,” she says. “Putting in gas that your car doesn’t require will just cost you money without improving your fuel economy.”
