Ly Hai and his wife let Rio, Cherry, Sunny, and Mio act in "Flip Side 7" for the first time, encouraging their children to get acquainted with acting.
Rio, 13 years old, Cherry, 11 years old, Sunny, 10 years old and Mio, 8 years old, participated in segments about the main characters' childhood, co-starring with actress Oanh Kieu (as the mother).
Jokingly calling his four children "homegrown", Ly Hai said he wanted them to have more interesting experiences on set, thereby nurturing their passion for acting. "I don't force my children to act in films, but always ask for their opinions first, so that they volunteer," he said.
"Flip Side 7" is the first film that Ly Hai's four children participated in together, with a longer duration than the previous parts. The two children Rio and Cherry had acted in "Lat mat 1" (2015) with some dialogue-free scenes. Gradually, the director assigned the children more difficult roles.
In "Flip Side 6" (2023), Cherry and Sunny play two sisters selling lottery tickets, who are chased away by customers and burst into tears. Although they act instinctively, the two children surprised Ly Hai and co-stars Huy Khanh and Quoc Cuong because they quickly got into character. After finishing the scene, the two child actors were paid two glasses of sugarcane juice and a few fried fish balls.
Ly Hai said he wants his children to get used to work from a young age so they can understand the value of labor. Born in a poor rural area of Tien Giang, growing up with a difficult childhood, he often advises his children to cherish money. He and his wife do not spend much money on buying toys but let the children share them. "I often teach my children: buying a bunch of water spinach for 10,000-20,000 VND outside is different from growing them. Because when you take care of them yourself, picking off an old leaf, you feel sorry, eating a bowl of soup is much more delicious," he said.
Ly Hai graduated from the drama course of the School of Stage Arts 2 (now Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema). In the early 1990s, he started his singing career. In 2010, Ly Hai left the stage and turned to directing.

The film revolves around Mrs. Hai (artist Thanh Hien), 73 years old, who raised five children alone. When they grew up and became rich, they pushed each other to take care of their mother, thinking that they each had their own difficulties. However, Mrs. Hai still proudly bragged about her children to her neighbors.
The work brings together nearly 50 actors such as Quach Ngoc Tuyen, Thanh Thuc, Dinh Y Nhung, and Tiet Cuong. Some are participating for the first time, including Truong Minh Cuong - who attracted attention in the TV series "Gio Nghiep Mua" (2009), with a cast of veteran artists such as Thanh Hien, Manh Dung, Thanh Dau. The work started filming at the end of 2023, filming for a month and a half in Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, Hanoi.
