On the afternoon of July 11, the Ministry of Public Security said that recently, some subjects have taken advantage of "Deepfake" technology to make video calls with fake images and faces to defraud "victims" in order to commit illegal acts.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, Deepfake is a threat to the honesty and trust of videos and images. Subjects use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create fake videos or images, copy portraits to create fake videos of relatives and friends to make online scam calls.

Most of these online scams are aimed at financial fraud. So when people receive calls related to financial content, they should be alert and confirm further.

The Ministry of Public Security also pointed out the identifying signs, which are that the call time is usually very short, only a few seconds; The face lacks emotion and is quite "indifferent" when speaking, or the posture looks awkward, unnatural, or the head and body direction in the video are inconsistent with each other...

The skin tone of the characters in the video is off, the lighting is weird, and the shadows are out of place. This can make the video look very fake and unnatural.

Sound is also a problem that can occur in videos. Specifically, the sound will not be consistent with the image, there will be a lot of noise lost in the clip or the clip will have no sound. In particular, during communication, it is often interrupted in the middle, saying that the signal is lost, the signal is weak... Requesting to transfer money but the transfer account is not the person making the call.

From the above warnings, the Ministry of Public Security recommends preventive measures. Specifically, if you receive a call asking for urgent money transfer, first stay calm and verify the information: Contact relatives and friends directly through another channel to see if they really need money.

Double-check the account number from which the money is being transferred. If it is an unfamiliar account, it is best not to proceed with the transaction. If the call is from someone claiming to represent the bank, hang up and call the bank directly to confirm that the call was indeed made by the bank.

Poor quality, intermittent voice or video calls are a factor that makes you doubt the caller as well as the authenticity of the call.
