Recently, the news that famous Hong Kong singer Coco Lee committed suicide at her home and passed away at the age of 48 shocked her fans.

According to Yahoo!, in her final years, Coco Lee was tormented by illness. In 2022, in addition to breast cancer, she suffered from depression, had a leg disability, and was unable to walk.

Previously, the singer was devastated by her marital problems. After divorcing her husband, businessman Bruce Rockowitz, the relationship between Coco Lee and her husband's children gradually broke down. Bruce's two children were cold towards their stepmother.

What's behind the glory?

On April 19, the Korean entertainment world was shocked to hear that male singer Moonbin (ASTRO) was found dead at his home in Gangnam district, Seoul.

Previously, the male idol revealed that he faced an internal struggle and admitted to going through "difficult times". Moonbin had temporarily stopped his artistic activities since 2019 due to health problems.

In 2019, the whole of Asia was shocked when famous Korean idol Sulli hanged herself at her home in Seongnam, Gyeonggi.

Her death is predicted to come from too much pressure from the online community.

In the months before her death, she was repeatedly criticized by the public for her braless fashion. Her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Choiza was also criticized due to the age gap.

In Japan, the death of actor Haruma Miura in 2020 shocked the entire entertainment industry, because just a few days before, the actor confirmed his participation in the film project Okane no Krime ga Koi no Hajimari.

Like Coco Lee and Sulli, the 30-year-old actor had long struggled with depression. Two years before his death, he began drinking and became mentally unstable, often denying himself.

Another famous case of suicide due to depression is Hong Kong legend Leslie Cheung. In 2003, the actor jumped to his death, shocking the whole of Asia.

In the will that Leslie Cheung left behind, he wrote: "Depression. Thank you friends, thank you Professor Felice Lieh-Mak (the psychologist who treated him). This year has been so difficult for me, I have endured as much as I can. I have never done anything bad in my life, why did things turn out like this?"

The passing of the above famous names shows the dark side that artists have to endure behind the halo of a brilliant career. Not everyone is brave enough, lucky enough and brave enough to overcome the haunting obsession that always torments them inside.

The more famous an artist is, the lonelier he is.

Sharing about the reason why famous people are prone to depression and lead to tragic endings, psychologist Dr. Tran Thanh Nam (currently working at the University of Education, Hanoi National University) commented:

"We often have a biased view of the superficial aspects of artists, especially famous artists at the peak of their careers.

We think it's a dream life because it's all rosy. They earn a lot of money, go to fancy places, eat first, and get special treatment. But we don't see that behind the fame and success is an extremely high work pressure."

Celebrities can endure a grueling performance schedule that drains them emotionally and creatively to please their audiences. This can slowly wear down their stamina, leaving them sleepless, exhausted, and depressed.

But no matter how tired and exhausted they are, on the outside they still have to wear a social mask of beauty, cuteness and always being full of energy.

The more famous you are, the lonelier you become. While fame leads to the attention of fans, it often makes it difficult to establish and maintain deep and sincere emotional relationships. Especially in highly competitive fields like the music or performance industry.

According to journalist Thuy Nga (who has worked for many years at the Center for Cinema Research and Archives, under the Vietnam Film Institute), artists are also human. They also have problems and pressures in their daily lives. However, their problems are often scrutinized, exaggerated, and attacked by malicious anti-fans.

"Many artists who cannot control themselves will turn to stimulants to relieve stress. However, if these stimulants are abused, they will promote a cycle of exhaustion and depression, making the artist more depressed."
