During the National Day holiday on September 2, while night flights are cheap and there are still many seats left, daytime flight times have seen ticket prices skyrocket on the first and last days of this holiday period.

On the first and last days of this year's National Day holiday, the number of air passengers is expected to be higher than usual.

Ticket prices skyrocket on first and last day of holiday

Accordingly, today, August 31, flights departing before 7am and after 9pm every day are having many cheap prices, equivalent to or even lower than ticket prices during off-peak periods.

“For flights departing between 7am and 9pm, the price trend is more volatile, with some prices increasing by more than 40% compared to the low season. However, this is only concentrated on the days starting and ending the holiday period (August 31 and September 3), while the prices in the middle of the period are basically stable compared to the previous days,” said a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Specifically, the Hanoi-Nha Trang route on August 31 will have flights departing after 7 p.m. operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air with prices starting from VND3.1 million/way. Similar to other routes, passengers will have many options for flights on this route at many time slots in the following days with prices starting from VND1.3 million/way.

Ho Chi Minh City-Da Nang route, ticket price from 1.8 million VND/way on flights departing after 7:00 p.m. on August 31, flights departing in the middle of the day have higher prices, from 2.3 million VND/way. The following days have many flights available with lower prices, from only 1.2 million VND/way.

Daytime flights are more expensive than evening and night flights.

The Hanoi-Da Nang route on August 31 currently has flights departing after 5 p.m., with prices starting from VND2.1 million/way for Bamboo Airways flights operating at 6:30 p.m. The following days in the period (September 1-3), time slots are still open for sale with many prices for passengers to choose from at many time slots during the day, starting from only VND1.1 million/way.

Regarding the Hanoi-Phu Quoc resort route, on August 31, it was recorded that only the flight departing at 7:15 am operated by Vietnam Airlines was open for sale at a price of about 4.5 million VND/way (including meals). In the following days, the prices announced by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air ranged from 1.4-1.7 million VND/way at many departure times.

Buy early and far away for more bargains

According to the representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the above survey data on airfare prices has demonstrated that fluctuations in airfare prices depend on the time of choosing to book tickets, this occurs at any time of the year, not just during peak periods.

“It can be seen that, on the same flight route, if tickets are purchased closer to the departure date, ticket prices will be higher, and passengers will have fewer options for flight times because there are no more seats available for sale,” said a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

In case of buying tickets in advance and far from the departure date, passengers will be able to choose prices and flight times that suit their travel plans, which also helps airlines proactively balance and implement effective operating plans to serve passengers. This is the reason why the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam always recommends that passengers should have a travel plan and book tickets early on flights to have more opportunities to choose flight times and suitable ticket prices.

The Civil Aviation Authority has directed airlines to increase flights and add capacity on many domestic routes during the September 2 holiday.

During the 2024 National Day holiday, in preparation for serving passengers' air travel needs, the Civil Aviation Authority has directed airlines to increase operations and supplement seat supply on domestic routes.

In addition, during this period, the Civil Aviation Authority will continue to issue additional flight permits based on requests received from airlines and market developments, with the aim of meeting passenger air travel needs, thereby contributing to regulating airfares.
