Emergency arrest of suspect in kidnapping children and demanding ransom of 2 billion VND in Dong Nai

The child kidnapper suspect identified himself as Nguyen Thanh Son (34 years old, residing in Nhi Thanh commune, Thu Thua district, Long An province). Son was arrested by police while traveling on a passenger bus through Dong Nai province towards Lam Dong province.

According to initial information, at around 3:00 p.m. the same day, suspect Son went to a kindergarten in Ward 6, Tan An City, Long An to pick up a 3-year-old girl, the child of an acquaintance.

Son then drove the child back to Ho Chi Minh City and texted the child's parents demanding a ransom of 2 billion VND.

Upon receiving the information, at around 4:30 p.m. the same day, the child's parents reported the incident to the police.

Long An police have received information from the child's parents and identified Nguyen Thanh Son as the child's caretaker.

After receiving the report, the Criminal Police Department and local police in Ho Chi Minh City, Long An and Dong Nai directed professional forces to coordinate in searching for the suspect who was kidnapping the child.

At around 9:30 p.m., the police located and approached Son on a PT passenger bus traveling on Highway 20 in Tan Phu District, Dong Nai Province, towards Lam Dong Province, successfully subdued the suspect and protected the safety of the kidnapped child.

Suspect Son confessed that he had previously taken the child to a hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, then moved to Lam Dong province until he was arrested.

Son also confessed that because he knew the girl's father and was in debt, he had the idea of ​​kidnapping the girl for ransom.

The child has been rescued and returned to his family.
