Previously, some social networking sites and some newspapers claimed that the Tran Quoc Tuan Hung Dao Monument in Ho May Tourist Area, Vung Tau City copied the image of Guan Yu - a Chinese general.
The statue of Hung Dao Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan is located at Ho May Tourist Area, Vung Tau city.
On May 10, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province reported the results of the inspection of the construction of the statue of Hung Dao Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan at Ho May Tourist Area, Vung Tau city.
Previously, on social networks, there was an article stating that the statue of King Tran Quoc Tuan Hung Dao located at Ho May Tourist Area had some inappropriate content such as Saint Tran not riding a horse but riding a Black Elephant or King Tran Quoc Tuan not using a long knife but a sword... This statue copied the image of Quan Van Truong (a Chinese general).
Some newspapers have also reported on the above incident.
Upon receiving the information, the Department of Culture and Sports Inspectorate and the Department of Cultural Heritage Management coordinated with other units to work with Vung Tau Cable Car Tourism Joint Stock Company.
According to the company, this statue is one of 14 independent statues, located in the Temple area, the campus of the National Heroes Exhibition House (Ho May Tourist Area) approved by the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
The statue was crafted, built and completed in 2018 by a group of artisans from Quang Nam. The statue is 3m high and made of concrete and painted with copper.
To determine the aesthetic value of the statue, on April 15, the Art Council, including representatives of the Department of Culture and Sports, the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the Provincial Science and History Association, the Department of Construction, painters and sculptors, worked with the investor.
At the meeting, most of the comments and assessments of the Art Council agreed that the statue of Hung Dao Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan located at Ho May Tourist Area, in general, is not a copy of Quan Van Truong.
However, there are two details: the posture of King Tran Quoc Tuan riding a horse and holding a sword, so some people associate it with the posture and weapon that Quan Van Truong often used.
The artists and sculptors in the Art Council also commented that aesthetically, the statue has unbalanced details and does not clearly show the spirit of General Tran Quoc Tuan.
The Department of Culture and Sports said that through inspection, it was also found that during the construction process, the company had not established an Art Council immediately after implementing the project to provide advice on art and had not completed the application for a construction permit for the art part of the project.
The Department of Culture and Sports requested that Vung Tau Cable Car Tourism Joint Stock Company review all 14 statues of famous people built in the tourist area and a relief of Dien Bien Phu victory.
The Department established an Art Council to provide artistic advice on the statues, propose adjustments to inappropriate details, and complete the dossier to send to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration of granting a construction permit for the artistic part of the project.
