Apple releases iOS 18 and a series of new operating systems

Opening Apple's WWDC 2024 developer event, which took place from midnight on June 11, the company's leadership created a fun atmosphere with the image of jumping from a plane, in which each operating system was embedded in a parachute, landing at the event venue at Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino (USA).

During the nearly two-hour event, the company spent more than an hour talking about the operating system on its device lineup before mentioning the artificial intelligence feature it calls Apple Intelligence.

One of the most anticipated changes is iOS 18. Accordingly, the new version has about 17 major improvements, such as support for interface customization with icon colors, widgets that can be personalized. The control center area is redesigned with more screen space to perform more control operations.

In addition, iMessage supports RCS messages with other platforms, Apple Wallet allows touch to transfer money between devices, adds game mode, app lock feature...

With iPad, in addition to some improvements similar to iOS 18, iPadOS 18 is also strongly changed by exploiting the features of the Pencil and the Notes tool. Accordingly, the Math Notes feature allows users to write problems and receive solutions directly in the application. In addition, the company also brought the calculator feature to this device for the first time after 14 years of launch.

In addition, the Vision Pro glasses will have the first major upgrade, visionOS 2, which supports mouse control, adds gestures to open the control center, supports SharePlay in the Photos app, and a number of APIs for developers. The device will be widely sold in many new markets such as China, Japan, and Singapore in June.

watchOS version 11 on Apple smartwatches will add a language translation tool, a Vitals app to check important health information, pregnancy tracking, and some changes in exercise tracking to improve user performance.

tvOS will have an additional feature called InSight, which helps users learn about the actor, song, or movie they are watching. In addition, subtitles will automatically appear if the volume is muted or rewinded on the new OS.

Apple also took the time to talk about a series of improvements related to audio devices, in which AirPods added gesture control, such as nodding to answer the phone, or personalized audio when using games. The Voice Isolation feature will help users have clear conversations in crowded places, minimizing outside noise.

For Apple computer users, macOS Sequoia is a much-anticipated update. The WWDC stage received a standing ovation when Vice President Craig Federighi announced the first feature, iPhone Mirroring, which allows you to access and interact with your iPhone on your Mac.

The new operating system also improves some features such as the Safari browser that helps filter each type of content to focus more when browsing the web; automatically optimizes screen arrangement when opening multiple windows; and brings more games to the operating system.

In particular, macOS Sequoia deeply integrates Apple Intelligence, using AI for text and image tools in different styles, and integrating into applications such as Mail, Notes, Pages and third-party applications, to increase communication efficiency for users.

Unlike other AI devices on the market, Apple Intelligence uses user data on the device, which is able to understand context and make suggestions in a natural, personalized way. To ensure privacy, the company said it used a Private Cloud Compute system, combining on-device processing with models running on specialized Apple Silicon servers.

In addition, macOS Sequoia, iOS 18, iPadOS 18 are also the first operating systems of Apple to integrate ChatGPT. OpenAI's application will be integrated into Siri and editing tools across Apple systems that users use.

The new operating systems are expected to be officially available in the fall. However, features related to Apple Intelligence will only support devices running Apple chips, from M1 and A17 Pro onwards.
