On June 16, the People's Court of Quang Tri province opened a mobile trial and sentenced Ho Lang to death for illegally transporting drugs.
According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Quang Tri province, at about 5:00 p.m. on March 9, 2022, Ho Lang (23 years old, residing in Tan Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province) was asked by a subject named Ho Kum (residing in Tan Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district) to keep a gray plastic bag and told him to deliver the bag when he received a phone call. Lang received the plastic bag, then took it to his bedroom, opened it to check, and saw 4 yellow packages inside and knew they were drugs.
At around 8:00 p.m. the same day, Ho Kum called Lang and told him to take the package to A Trum Bridge (Lao Bao Town) and promised to give him 300,000 VND to buy gas after finishing the job. Ho Lang agreed and took the bag containing the drugs to get on his Winner motorbike and drive to A Trum Bridge. When he arrived, Lang did not see Ho Kum so he continued to drive his motorbike along National Highway 9 towards the center of Lao Bao Town for about 100m and saw Kum standing on the left side of the road with a young man.
At this time, Lang drove the car around to the left side of the road and handed the bag of drugs to Kum. When Kum brought the bag of drugs to the young man, he discovered the Drug Crime Investigation Police of Quang Tri Province Police, so he threw the plastic bag containing the drugs at the scene and ran away. The young man who came to receive the goods saw the commotion and also ran away, escaping. Ho Lang, who was sitting on the motorbike, was controlled by the Drug Crime Investigation Police of Quang Tri Province Police, who made a record of the arrest of the criminal red-handed.
At the scene, the authorities seized a grey plastic bag containing more than 130 small packages containing pink and blue tablets. Through examination, the pink tablets weighing more than 2.3 kg were Methamphetamine. The blue tablets weighing more than 22 grams were not drugs.
During the investigation as well as at the trial, the defendant Ho Lang confessed honestly, repented, and asked for leniency from the law. After deliberation, considering the nature and level of the particularly serious violation of the case, the Trial Panel sentenced him to the above sentence.
