All levels, sectors, schools, and families in Hai Duong have had many practical activities to take care of children so they can have a warm and fulfilling Mid-Autumn Festival.
Give love
"Mid-Autumn Festival is a festival of love and reunion, so I want to give my children lots of surprises," said Mr. Nguyen Van Vien in Kim Lai fishing village, Ngoc Chau ward (Hai Duong city).
In Kim Lai, people's lives are now better off, so the Mid-Autumn Festival is also organized thoughtfully and fully. On the night of the full moon festival this year, the residential area organized a performance program, broke the cake, watched the moon and gave gifts to good and studious children. Mr. Vien added: "20 years ago, Kim Lai fishing village was dark. Life was drifting, here today and gone tomorrow. Uneducated, children followed their parents to work on the river, so every Mid-Autumn Festival, any family that cared could only buy a few rice cakes and coconuts for their children, which was considered a luxury. Now, children in Kim Lai are cared for and have a much more prosperous life."
To compensate for the disadvantages of orphans, disabled children, and children in difficult circumstances, many places in the province visited, gave gifts, and organized "Full Moon Festival Night" for them. On the evening of September 17, more than 60 visually impaired children of the Hai Duong Blind Association celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival early. Nguyen Thi Nhi shared: "Although I can't see, I know that the uncles and aunts have prepared many gifts for us."
On the evening of September 27, the Center for Rehabilitation, Education, Vocational Training and Employment for the Blind (Hai Duong Association for the Blind) also organized the program "Full Moon Festival Night" for 60 visually impaired students. Many organizations and units such as: Volunteer Club of Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, World Art, Tzu Chi Charity Organization Taiwan - Vietnam, Binh An - Fly Charity Fund, Charity Porridge Group - Hai Duong Vegetarian Community joined hands to organize and sponsor the program.
The "Full Moon Festival" program for blind children was organized by Thanh Dong Volunteer Group and Dong Giang Mother Temple Association, and then spread to many other benefactors. More than 60 blind children were given Mid-Autumn gifts, each worth more than 800,000 VND. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Yen in Tran Phu Ward (Hai Duong City) said: "The disadvantaged children cannot see the sparkling colors of the Full Moon Festival, so we hope we can make up for it for them."
Recently, more than 100 disabled children from the Social Protection Center (Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) were immersed in the atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival at the Provincial Museum. They experienced making star lanterns and learned about familiar Mid-Autumn Festival items. Many children were excited to complete a star lantern by themselves. Nguyen Thi Thuy happily shared: “This is the first time I have made a star lantern, and it is also the first year I have learned about the Mid-Autumn Festival at the Provincial Museum. Next year I want to make star lanterns again to give to the children at the center.”
Children's Day
In order for all children to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival according to the customs and traditions of the Vietnamese people, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Duong province requested the departments, branches, sectors, mass organizations of the province and the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2023 in a warm, thoughtful and truly children's festival.
On this occasion, many schools in the province organized meaningful activities. On September 26, Hoa Anh Dao Kindergarten, Tan Binh Ward (Hai Duong City) organized an art competition for children, and together with teachers, they set up a Mid-Autumn Festival tray. Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, a parent of Son Ca 3 class, said: "The Mid-Autumn Festival belongs to the children, so on this occasion, the teachers let the children draw, color, make cakes, and mold figurines to contribute to the tray. Many of the products made by the children are very funny and lovely."
This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere is also bustling in many businesses. Instead of just partying and giving gifts to children, many businesses have meticulously organized collective entertainment activities and competitions for children. On the evening of September 22, the Urban Construction Management Joint Stock Company coordinated with the Hai Duong Urban Environment Joint Stock Company to organize the "Full Moon Festival Night" with many attractive programs. Nguyen Van Hung shared: "I was most impressed with the handmade fashion show designed and created by our parents from recycled materials. Through that, we understand our parents' work and are more aware of environmental protection."
“Mid-Autumn Festival is a children's festival. Every Mid-Autumn Festival, children can play together, gather with their parents and grandparents around the moon-watching tray, deeply feel the value of family affection, and nurture the innocent and pure emotions of childhood” - the kind words in the letter of President Vo Van Thuong to children on the occasion of this year's Mid-Autumn Festival further affirm that the whole society needs to care and pay more attention so that children can have a warm and loving Mid-Autumn Festival.
