On February 16, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nivine El-Kabbag said that the country has sent nearly 200,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Minister El-Kabbag made the announcement while participating in the marathon called “Run for Gaza” in the Egyptian capital Cairo, which attracted 10,000 participants to raise funds for Palestinians in Gaza.

She appreciated the role of the Egyptian Red Crescent in arranging logistics, expanding supply chains and storing aid received from nearly 37 countries.

Minister El-Kabbag added that the aid from Egypt accounts for 60% of the total relief supplies to Gaza, sent by land, sea or air.

On the same day, Egypt denied reports that it would build more refugee camps along the border with Gaza to accommodate Palestinians forced to evacuate from the current conflict between Hamas and Israel.

The head of Egypt's National Information Agency, Diaa Rashwan, stressed that Egypt rejects the forced or voluntary relocation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to other places, especially to Egyptian territory.

He affirmed that this is a direct threat to Egypt's sovereignty and national security, a red line and Cairo will take measures to deal with this immediately and effectively.

In addition, Mr. Rashwan also denied reports that Egypt had begun building a separation wall on the border with Gaza. He pointed out that there had been a buffer zone and fence in the area long before the current crisis in Gaza.
