Vuong Di Nhien is being asked by the audience to have her title revoked because she is the daughter of a scammer.
August 30,HK01reported that Miss Hong Kong 2023 Trang Tu Tuyen and the two runners-up Vuong Di Nhien and Vuong Man Tu participated in an interview after being crowned. However, the second runner-up Vuong Di Nhien faced public opposition and encountered an awkward situation related to negative personal information.
According toHK01Wang Yiran's parents were exposed as fraudsters in mainland China. They ran tutoring centers in more than 10 different cities but owed employees wages and cheated students out of tuition fees, amounting to 10 million yuan (US$1.3 million).
The victims were not compensated even though they won the lawsuit. Afterwards, Vuong Di Nhien's family went bankrupt and had to flee to Hong Kong, China to live. This is also the reason why the 21-year-old beauty was not accompanied by her parents when she participated in the beauty pageant.
Viewers believe that Vuong Di Nhien does not deserve to be the runner-up when she lives a comfortable life thanks to the money her parents cheated from the victims. Many are angry that TVB did not thoroughly check the background of the contestants before the pageant. They are demanding that TVB strip Vuong Di Nhien of her crown.
Vuong Di Nhien is at risk of losing her crown because her parents are involved in a fraud scandal.
When asked about her parents' fraud scandal, Vuong Di Nhien could not keep calm and burst into tears. She was taken backstage, and the staff had to comfort the 21-year-old beauty.
"This is a private matter so I don't feel comfortable sharing much. My family is not like that. I have seen the messages but I don't know everything,"Vuong Di Nhien said she did not know about her parents' debts or the accusations of some individuals.
The beauty also revealed that her parents were worried that this scandal would affect their daughter's reputation and work, so they told her not to worry and that they would find a way to resolve it.
"I felt pressured and had a hard time being involved in this scandal. However, I am only 21 years old and I cannot stop working just because of some comments. I am also used to not having my parents around, I learned to live independently early on,"Vuong Di Nhien shared.
Wang Yiran was born in 2002 in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China. She is currently a student at Hong Kong Baptist University. In the 2023 Miss Hong Kong pageant, in addition to the runner-up title, Wang Yiran also won the Miss Photogenic award.
