Despite high viewership ratings, "The Youngest Son of a Rich Man", "Love Story in Paris", "Age 25, 21"... are Korean dramas voted to have the worst endings.
On January 9, Woman Chosun reported that in a poll on the topic "The Drama with the Worst Ending", The Youngest Son of a Chaebol topped the list with 6,857 votes. According to statistics from Nielsen Korea, the final episode of The Youngest Son of a Chaebol ended with a high viewership rating of 26.9%, but viewers were not satisfied with the ending.
They criticized the ending of the film as being far from the original. Because the film was only 16 episodes long, the way the problems were resolved was somewhat hasty and forced, with many details being unsatisfactory. The sudden death of the main character Jin Do Joon was also the reason why the audience was disappointed with the film.
Coming in second place is the drama Weird Lawyer Woo Young Woo with 2,712 votes. The drama attracted audiences with many famous lines and healing messages in each episode. One of the factors that attracted viewers was the acting of actress Park Eun Bin. Despite having an impressive viewership rating of 15.7%, the drama was disappointing because of its shortcomings and forced love story, especially in the last episodes. The work ended with an open ending and a series of somewhat hasty situations, causing the quality to decline.
Ranked 3rd is the movie Age 25, 21 with 2,558 votes. The movie tells the story of young people's efforts to pursue success when they are pushed into difficult situations by the times and the memorable love story of Baek Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk) and Na Hee Do (played by Kim Tae Ri). In the first episodes, the movie was highly appreciated for its old setting, love story and youthful friendship that brought a relaxing feeling to the viewers. However, the audience was not satisfied with the ending. They thought that the breakup of the two main characters was unreasonable and forced.
High Kick 2 is next on the list. The film is a comedy and romance, bringing a lot of laughter to the audience revolving around a happy family story and meaningful life lessons. However, the tragic car accident of Uncle Ji Hoon and the maid Se Kyung in the last episode of the film left the audience disappointed. They thought that this detail ruined the whole film.
Paris Love Story (2004) is also on this list despite being released quite a while ago. The film attracts and captivates viewers from the first episodes to the end, but the entire story is just the imagination of the female lead character Tae Young.
At the bottom of this ranking is the drama SKY Castle. SKY Castle was once known as the "Korean drama phenomenon" in 2019. After a glorious journey to conquer the audience throughout 19 episodes, SKY Castle was thought to have an explosive ending, but the final episode was bland and disappointing. The audience thought that the final episode of SKY Castle only had the role of wrapping up the story, creating a happy but forced ending, completely different from the tension and darkness of the previous 19 episodes.
